As the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure was produced as a direct to student online platform, we have carefully reviewed and updated our safeguarding policy and procedures.
Definition of safeguarding
Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Protecting children from harm is everyone’s responsibility. Abuse can come in many forms: physical, sexual, psychological or emotional and can come from anyone, including adults, teachers, parents or other children and teenagers. While it is impossible to eliminate risk completely, every person who comes into contact with Generation Global is responsible for making our dialogue space safe and empowering for all young people.
What we do to protect children
First, privacy is very important to us. We protect and verify the identity of young people through registration and through gaining parental or guardian permission to use this platform. Personal information is never shared outside of our website.
Secondly, we ask you and your students not to share any personally identifiable information e.g. email addresses, telephone numbers, personal social media handles, on the website or on our social media channels. We request that neither you nor your students take screenshots of any Generation Global activities e.g. videoconferences, dialogue spaces and refrain from posting these on social media. This is to protect you, your students and other young people engaged in the programme.
Third, we use trained moderators and facilitators to support students in developing their dialogue skills. All the adults who work with our programme must pass a rigorous safeguarding training programme and background checks before joining our team.
Fourth, we have a clear reporting system. If young people ever have any concern or something they need to talk about related to Generation Global’s website or work, that either they have experienced or witnessed, they can complete the safeguarding reporting form, email safeguarding@generation.global, call us on 0207 907 9800, or refer to the list of local safeguarding contacts. All of our safeguarding policies and procedures are outlined clearly on our website and participating young people will need to watch a safeguarding video, as part of their registration, that explains their rights and how to report a safeguarding concern.
Lastly, our goal at Generation Global is to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become active global citizens. Knowing their rights and responsibilities, both online and offline, and having the confidence and skills to demand them, are important parts of a young person’s development. To help with this, we provide resources on important topics such as human rights and hate speech to help young people to understand and play their part in protecting themselves and their peers around the world.
