To ensure all participants can understand and engage in dialogue, simultaneous translation may be enabled for specific video conferences. Follow these steps to select and use the simultaneous translation feature if it is available:
1. Join the Zoom Meeting
- Open the Zoom application on your computer or mobile device.
- Click on the meeting link provided by the organizer or enter the meeting ID and passcode.
2. Locate the Interpretation Feature
- Once you are in the meeting, look at the bottom of the Zoom window for the toolbar.
- You should see a globe icon labelled "Interpretation." If you do not see this icon, interpretation might not be enabled for your video conference.
3. Select your language
- Click on the "Interpretation" icon.
- A menu will appear showing the available languages for interpretation.
- Select the language you prefer to hear. For example, if you want to hear the translation in Spanish, click on "Spanish"
4. Mute original audio
- After selecting your language, you will hear the interpreter translating the meeting content into your chosen language.
- If you prefer not to hear the original speaker’s voice in the background, you can mute the original audio.
- To do this, click on the “Mute original audio” option in the interpretation menu. This will allow you to hear only the interpreter.
5. Switching between languages
- If at any point you need to switch to a different language, click on the “Interpretation” icon again and select a new language from the menu.
- You can also choose to stop using interpretation by selecting “Off” in the interpretation menu.
Tips for a Smooth Experience:
- Test equipment: Before the video conference, ensure your headphones and microphone are working properly.
- Quiet environment: Find a quiet space to avoid background noise interfering with your listening experience.
- Speak clearly: If you are speaking and being interpreted, speak clearly and at a moderate pace to help the interpreter provide an accurate translation.
